Fecal Incontinence

Dr. Deirdre Hart, colon and rectal surgeon, discusses fecal incontinence.

How can you help someone with fecal incontinence?

Fecal incontinence is not uncommon. It's something people don't want to talk about, and they don't want people to know about it. However, a lot of people are living with fecal incontinence. There are different things we can do to try and improve someone's quality of life including manipulating their stool consistency, using a sacral nerve stimulator to help remind your muscles and your nerves that they should be working, or surgical options as well if you have a sphincter defect or a tear in your muscles either from childbirth or for some other reason.
