Many patients who have a lump or knot in their breast will need to have some type of surgery to remove it.

Lumpectomy (Breast Conservation)

A lumpectomy is the surgical removal of a cancerous lump, or tumor. During the procedure, a margin of the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor is also removed.

Mastectomy With or Without Reconstruction

A mastectomy is the surgical removal of the entire breast.

Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy

The sentinel node is part of a network of lymphatic vessels and is the first lymph node to receive drainage from a cancer-containing region of the breast.

Axillary Lymph Node Dissection

Axillary lymph node dissection is the surgical removal of all the axillary lymph nodes, which are located underneath the arm within the armpit.
