Lincoln Surgical Associates Partnership with United HealthCare of the Midwest

UPDATE: We are pleased to announce that Lincoln Surgical Associates will continue to be a provider in the United HealthCare network.

Managed care plans have become the dominant means of health care coverage over the past several decades. Lincoln Surgical Associates recognizes the importance of contracting with healthcare insurance companies and works diligently to contract with the many different companies which best represent our patient population. As a result, we currently have contracts with many different health insurance companies.  Lincoln Surgical Associates periodically opens discussions with these managed care companies to request coverage for new services offered and to update plan rates to cover our continued rising costs.

Over the past several months Lincoln Surgical Associates has been seeking to address shortcomings in our existing United HealthCare contract regarding issues and the current rate structure.  Despite significant effort and patience, it appears that Lincoln Surgical Associates may no longer be a provider for United HealthCare effective September 1, 2023.  This will include both our Commercial and Medicare Advantage patients.

“Lincoln Surgical Associates was very focused on resolving this matter because we know there are a number of patients in the community who rely on Lincoln Surgical Associates and United HealthCare health insurance coverage,” said Dr. James Clanahan, President of Lincoln Surgical Associates. “Lincoln Surgical Associates feels obligated to keep the community informed about the unfortunate situation with United HealthCare.”

Lincoln Surgical Associates had hoped our discussions with United HealthCare would have reached a fair agreement to avoid any disruption in services to our community members, but United HealthCare has refused all our proposals. Lincoln Surgical Associates will continue providing the quality health care services that are important to our surrounding communities. We also have provided quality health care services to our patients over the years, many of whom look to United HealthCare for their insurance coverage. We want to continue to provide services to our own patients, while respecting the rights of our patients’ employers to contract with the insurer of choice. Please contact your employer to express your concern about this change and if you have concerns about your continuing coverage and the impact on our physician-patient relationship. You also may contact our office for a list of our contracted health plans.
