Painless Vasectomy from Lincoln Surgical
While most urologists perform vasectomies as an in-office procedure, Douglas Aach, MD, FACS, and Nathan Compton, MD, use the operating room.
If you have patients interested in a vasectomy, but they don't want to be awake for the procedure, Dr. Aach and Dr. Compton may be able to help.
The Lincoln Surgical Associates' surgeons perform the open technique done bilaterally for painless vasectomies. Dr. Aach tells patients, "The only thing you'll feel during the procedure is the anesthesiologist putting the IV in your arm for anesthesia."
With the open technique, the surgeon makes a tiny little incision on the upper outer part of each side of the scrotum. Dr. Aach uses a clamp to pull out the tube, which he ties on the top part twice and the bottom part twice, then he cuts out a length of the tube between the two tied off sections. The two ends are tucked back in and placed with an absorbable suture that will fall off on its own a couple days later.
Very few people tell me that they have any discomfort at all. They were very happy, and they don’t remember anything.
Dr. Aach
Before suturing the incision, he will put an anesthetic into the scrotal area, which gives the patient very effective post-operative pain control.
The open technique for vasectomy is generally covered by insurance. If you have a patient interested in a pain-free vasectomy with essentially a zero failure rate, please refer them to Dr. Aach or Dr. Compton at Lincoln Surgical by calling 618.277.7400.
