Most conditions affecting the thyroid do not require surgery.

When thyroid removal is necessary, you will still live normally although you may need to take a daily thyroid pill.

The thyroid gland helps control your body’s metabolism, so a thyroid disorder can cause issues like hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) or Graves’ disease. Overproduction of the thyroid hormone speeds up the body, so you may experience anxiety, weight loss, or increased heart rate. On the other hand, if not enough thyroid hormone is being made, you can experience hypothyroidism, which can make you tired and sluggish. Other conditions include goiter, nodules, and cancer.

If you do have to have all or part of your thyroid removed, you can still live a normal life.

The majority of people we see is for thyroid nodules that are biopsied and don’t require surgery.
