Colon Cancer Screenings

If you're 45 or older and have not scheduled a colorectal cancer or colonoscopy screening, now is the time!

It's uncomfortable to talk about, but a colonoscopy screening is a test that can save your life or simply give you peace of mind.

This is a screening you want to have performed before you have symptoms because the earlier the polyps that can lead to cancer are caught, the easier they are to treat or remove.

Colonoscopy Screening Age

In 2021, the recommended age for colonoscopy screening was lowered from 50 to 45 for people at average risk due to the rise in colon and rectal cancer diagnoses in younger people.

At-Home Colorectal Screening

Now you have more options for colorectal cancer screening, including at-home tests prescribed by your primary care provider. If the at-home test comes back positive, you will need a colonoscopy to diagnose or rule out cancer and remove any polyps that could become cancerous.

Peace of Mind

Whether you choose to do your first screening test at home or a colonoscopy, the test can provide peace of mind. If you need a screening colonoscopy and it comes back negative for cancer—and you don't have polyps or other issues—you won't need to test as often (every 3-10 years depending on test type). When polyps are found during the colonoscopy, they can be removed and samples taken for biopsies during the screening process.
