Anal Fissures

Dr. Deirdre Hart, colon and rectal surgeon, discusses anal fissures.

An anal fissure is a tear in the lining of your anus. It hurts, and it can bleed.

Anal fissures are caused by straining because of constipation, diarrhea, foreign bodies, and other different things.

First, we would treat it medically. There are creams that will resolve most fissures. If that doesn't work, we can move on to surgical options.

We have a few options for surgery. All of them are outpatient. You come in, get your surgery, and go home the same day to recover.
