The main job of the kidneys is to filter the body's blood supply to remove extra water, salt, and waste left over after the body uses the energy it needs to live. Peritoneal Dialysis

In peritoneal dialysis, blood is filtered inside the body, but not through the kidneys. To prepare for this type of dialysis, a surgeon must place a thin, little plastic tube in your abdomen through which dialysis fluid is circulated. Peritoneal dialysis enables you to have more freedom because you can do the dialysis at home.
